Downtown Ottawa has a way of feeling both grand and intimate all at once. As I walked the familiar halls of City Hall a few weeks ago, camera in hand, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia. Almost fifteen years ago, Kevin and I walked those very same halls, just the two of us, with our immediate family by our side, ready to say yes to forever. It was simple, it was quiet, and it was perfect.
This time, I wasn’t the bride. I was there to capture one.
R and S chose a wedding that felt every bit as intentional as it was beautiful, the kind of day that doesn’t need grand gestures or a packed venue to make it meaningful. Just love, family, and a few heartfelt moments that will stay with them for a lifetime.
It was a crisp autumn day, the kind where the air is cool enough to make you pull your coat a little tighter, but not too cold to steal the smile off your face. The leaves had turned shades of gold and amber, and the city felt alive in that end of October kind of way.
The bride looked absolutely stunning in her gown, glowing with that unmistakable mix of nerves and joy. As she approached, I heard her dad softly say, “Oh wow, look how beautiful she looks.” It was one of those moments that freezes time. He lifted his camera to capture a photo of his little girl, now all grown up and standing in her wedding dress. And as I photographed him photographing her, I realized I wasn’t just documenting a wedding. I was witnessing the moment every father pictures in his mind from the day he finds out he’s having a little girl.
We entered City Hall together, making our way to a small room with a few rows of chairs and a simple podium at the front. The space was warm, quiet, and full of anticipation. The ceremony began, brief but beautiful, and just like that, two people walked out of the building carrying something new and unshakable: the promise of forever.
Some days feel big and loud. Others are gentle and pure.
This one was exactly that.
Congratulations, R and S. May your forever be filled with laughter, warmth, and a love as timeless as the halls of City Hall where it all began.
