The Beautiful, Scary Gift of a New Life
Having a baby is one of the scariest, most beautiful things a person can do. It’s messy and overwhelming and exhausting—but it’s also magic. Because suddenly, in what feels like a single breath, you go from being you to being someone’s everything.
They look up at you with complete trust. They rely on you for comfort, food, warmth, safety—everything. And it’s in those quiet, still moments—the soft snuggles at 2 a.m., the sleepy little breaths on your chest, the tiniest fingers curled around yours—that the reality of it sinks in.
You’ve been given a gift. A real, miraculous gift.
Not everyone wants to become a parent, and that’s completely okay. Some find their purpose elsewhere, and that’s beautiful in its own right. But if you do choose this path—if you’ve been lucky enough to hold a brand-new life in your arms— don't take it for granted and try to soak in every little thing. The silly faces. The gummy smiles. The way their whole body fits in your arms. Because everyone says it, and we all roll our eyes a little—but it’s true. It does go by in the blink of an eye.
One day, I’m gently tucking your newborn into a soft little basket for their first photos. The next, I’m chasing them barefoot through a field as they giggle and refuse to sit still for a single picture.
It all happens so fast.
So here’s a little reminder to breathe it in. To pause, even just for a moment. To really see the beauty in the chaos. Because these days? They don’t last forever. But oh, do they ever matter.
